Floreana Island

Today a guest said to me “Carlos, we have seen so much in the past two days that it seems that we have already been here for a very long time”. I nodded my head in agreement, and with a big smile I replied, “I understand exactly what you mean!” Time is relative when you are travelling around this wonderful archipelago. Here one easily loses track of time. The beauty of the natural settings, combined with the abundance and ecological naiveté of the islands’ inhabitants, provoke very strong feelings in our guests.

Today was one of the typically fascinating days in Galapagos that are extremely hard to describe. From an early outing where playful and curious Galapagos penguins swam around the Zodiacs, to a golden afternoon with bright and elegant flamingos feeding peacefully in a most beautiful and remote lagoon, it has been a marvelous day. Where else in the world can you see penguins, flamingos, sea turtles, sea lions and sharks within a few hours time on a given day?

The sea lions we enjoyed watching today deserve special mention. Swimming and snorkeling with these adorable mammals is an unforgettable experience. During the hour we spent admiring them in their marine habitat, we almost felt that we were a part of their world. We had been accepted, at least for some precious minutes. These were utterly magical moments, so powerful and moving that one tends to lose track of the time.
