Santa Cruz Island

Santa Cruz Island, with one of the healthiest populations of giant tortoises and headquarters to the Charles Darwin Research Station, also happens to be my home island. I grew up here, playing with the many animals that today catch the interest of naturalists all around the world.

I feel very fortunate to have had such a childhood and I am also very happy to work in one of the most pristine national parks on the planet. But what really fulfills my life is the opportunity to communicate what I have learned over the years and share my love for the islands with the many guests I meet aboard the Polaris.

Today we saw a vermilion flycatcher, several species of Darwin finches and giant sunflowers, or Scalesias, endemic plants to the Galapagos archipelago. We met famous lonesome George and found tortoises in the wild. And I also got to visit my mom!
