Genovesa Island

The island of Genovesa is home for thousands of birds. Frigate birds are at the peak of their breeding season and dominate the scene these weeks. Today, there were dozens of male great frigate birds showing off all over. They were doing their best to get the attention of the females. Their main device is, without any doubt, the bright red gular sac. These sacs when fully inflated add an incredible touch of color to the place. The stiff competition among males provokes the use of additional peculiar methods of persuasion. The male frigate birds turn their heads upward and move them from side to side. At the same time the birds spread their wings and shake them vigorously and call loudly. It is very amusing to observe the whole event. Can you imagine how busy and noisy the colony is at this time of the year? Love and attraction is floating in the air.
