Isabela and Fernandina Island

After a long navigation onboard Polaris, we arrived at one of the nicest places in the whole Galápagos archipelago, the island of Isabela. Isabela is one of the youngest islands of the Galápagos and is where the Cromwell underwater current comes to the surface. It is technically a buffet area for marine creatures, since food is more than abundant.

Since we had not seen whales yet, we were sailing around some strategic areas until a pod of dolphins decided to come and share their acrobatics with us and later a big group of pilot whales came and made our day!

After crossing the Galápagos waters and the equator line the night before, King Neptune decided to pay us a visit and baptized some of our guests, more excitement than most expected! If it were not enough, the rest of the morning was spent Zodiac riding along some breath taking cliffs where thousands of animals were found. All of them unafraid, aware of our presence but careless at the same time; that was a moment that all cherished.

In the afternoon, we visited the youngest island, Fernandina. This is one of the largest pristine islands in the world; a place that humans have not yet touched. This is an island where life carries on as if humans never existed, animals seem to take their time in their own activities, and where it seems as if time has stopped or at least slowed down; it is an amazing place! We all got the chance to see many flightless cormorants nesting and sea lions doing what they do best, sleeping! Many iguanas roaming around but also one of the greatest attributes this island has are its magnificent landscapes.

We can all agree that today was one of our best days, but there are many days yet to be lived and places to be discovered in this little corner in paradise.
