Isabela & Fernandina Island

Today we started early in the morning, the sky was overcast, however our guests were ready to observe the unbelievable scenery of this magical areas. We circumnavigated Roca Redonda the tip of a huge under water mountain whose base is 6000 feet deep; this rock is the home for thousands of sea birds, such as, shearwaters, Nazca boobies, blue-footed boobies, red billed tropic birds, etc. It is also one of the sites where the water is rich in plankton due to the submarine Cromwell current.

Later on we anchored at Punta Vicente Roca, where we had the possibility to do water activities with our guests, enjoying this fascinating place. Here we saw lots of wild life, and just to bring up some of them: Galápagos penguins, flightless cormorants, green sea turtles, boobies, marine iguanas, and the most amazing fish, ocean sunfish, better known as Mola mola.

In the afternoon we set foot on Fernandina Island, one of the most pristine islands in the entire world, there we had a short Zodiac ride, and then we walked on the pahoehoe lava (which means ropy lava). We saw flightless cormorants nesting, and males bringing algae to the females as gifts; algae is used to erect their nests. We also saw the biggest marine iguanas in the Galápagos. We walked over the sandy areas in which the marine iguanas were nesting last month. We were refreshed by a light drizzle, and ended another supernatural day in this heaven called Galápagos.
