Española Island
It's overcast and high tide in Punta Suarez, Española Island. However, we were very surprised today in the morning; the ocean was a bit rough at the coastline, some big waves were breaking over the landing jetty, and for that reason we had to delay our disembarking. By nine o’clock we set foot on the island, where we had the welcome committee: sea lions, marine iguanas, lava lizards, and hood mocking birds.
During the hike we were fascinated by the amount of sea birds found on this site: nazca boobies almost in the end of the breeding season, the blue-footed boobies in the beginning of thir breeding time, and of course the majestic (and largest) sea bird in the Galápagos Islands, found no where else in the whole world, the waved albatross.
At noon our guests had the privilege to taste an authentic, delicious Ecuadorian lunch, which consisted of several dishes from the three natural regions from my country, Ecuador: coast, highland, and jungle.
In the afternoon, we began our activities. On this occasion we had several options: glass bottom boat, deep water snorkeling, beach goers, and kayakers. The beach is such a beautiful place with the very fine white sand, where a large number of sea lions enjoy the tranquility of this paradise. It is 600 nautical miles away from Ecuador mainland, everything in the tranquility of turquoise waters, of sandy bottom; this is truly a wonderful bay, which is just a spot in our home planet, Earth.
