Española Island

Our day on the oldest island of the archipelago was extraordinary. Usual weather conditions accompanied us due to the change of temperature during the transition between the warm wet season and the dry cold season, bringing some fog around the island.

We explored the underwater world of Galápagos and large schools of fish of different colors and shapes and the closeness to these made this a great snorkeling experience.

Observing wild life from the kayaks was a great experience. There were Galápagos sea lions, blue footed boobies, frigate birds, and fishing Nazca boobies made our time extremely delightful. Those who went on to the beach were sharing time and even same resting area with sea lions, other found themselves being followed by some curious Hood mockingbirds.

Our afternoon on Punta Suarez was overwhelming as we were surrounded by dancing blue-footed boobies which were arriving to Hood Island for a second time this year. We also found a few females marine iguanas inside their nests or protecting it from some intruders, this behavior was unexpected because these were done nesting almost two months ago and this afternoon they were observed nesting once more again. As we were entering in the breeding grounds of Galápagos waved albatross some were very active flying all along the cliffs while others were resting along the trail and looked as if those have not been able to find their mates yet.

We left Hood Island and felt happy after this idyllic day in Galápagos.
