Bartolome & Santiago Islands
It is the final stage of our trip in this magical place and we all feel a little sad, however the energy level was very high. At this point everybody was ready to do everything and make sure that their last day in this enchanted place would be the best memory of their time on the islands.
Geology, landscape, botany, ictiology were in their best, however, birds were striving today to make everyone to understand why they are the most representative species of the Galápagos.
We hiked through spectacular volcanic landscape complete with spatter cones, fresh volcanic flows and tuff cones built of volcanic ash. We reached the top and revealed to ourselves the famous Bartolome pinnacle rock. The spatter cones, seemingly flash-frozen lava formations with colorful rocks of all kinds, were surrounded by the younger lava flows, the contrast of reds and blacks surrounded by calm waters.
Penguins came so close to the snorkelers, boobies ere diving like perfect machines to get into the water, frigates were showing off why they are the best aerial sea birds in the world, and the highlight was the pelicans that were just beginning with their nesting cycle.
These prehistoric-looking birds are starting with their reproduction time; the plumage colors were amazing and the territory display was very impressive, but the best was to hear the mating calls. In the mean time we all felt so fortunate to witness such event, in a place that shows the real way to coexist among species.
