Cerro Dragon and Sombrero Chino
After a great day in Puerto Ayora, at the southern part of Santa Cruz Island, it was time to sail north, to Cerro Dragon, a place well known for its enormous land iguanas. So we viewed plenty of these unique reptiles and understood how they make their lives in a place with not much food or fresh water available; during our trip we could see two big males defending their territory.
As always, snorkeling was amazing. At this time of year the water is a little cooler, but there is big diversity of sea creatures, which make it unforgettable.
Sombrero Chino was named like that for its similarity with this kind of hat used by Chinese, especially, by farmers or country people, with a conical shape. This islet is surrounded by many different tuff cones, where many marine birds rest and nest on their walls.
Having our dinghy ride along those nice formations, with a beautiful sunset, we saw a sea lion ready to have a pleasant night after a great dinner. Around the rock where the sea lion was having dinner there was a big Galápagos shark; it could have been hunting or getting the left over trailing behind the sea lion. Another fantastic day in Galápagos!
