Cerro Dragón & Sombrero Chino
The Polaris anchored at the western part of Santa Cruz Island. The weather was so spectacular: open blue skies and calm waters. As soon as we landed at Cerro Dragon, Mother Nature made a special niche teeming with wildlife. At the beginning, when we started to walk on this site we found a bachelor flamingo, which made a spectacular contrast with black lava for our shots. Beside the trail there were Darwin Finches, and Galápagos mockingbirds, performing a wonderful concert with their interesting noises; in this way they captured our guests’ attention, while many were trying to take some pictures of the marvelous landscape.
Later on we found many land iguanas, roaming around the area and gave us an interesting display; some of us were witness to a territorial dispute. When we returned to the Polaris immediately, and we headed to the Guy Fawkes in order to have our next outing. Water activities like deep water snorkeling helped us to spot beautiful sea lions, many sea stars, and reef fish. This was one spectacular activity in the morning.
During the lunch the Captain pulled anchor and we headed towards Sombrero Chino, which is located at the Eastern coast of Santiago Island. The first panga led us to totally different snorkeling. Besides the Kayaks and Panga ride activities there was a perfect place to take a lot photos from the volcanic landscape. Some of our guests preferred to stay at beach of Sombrero Chino, which is a white patch of sandy beach, where we can find a colony of sea lions and plenty of marine iguanas. At the end of the journey we came back to the Polaris. Later on, we were delighted on the sky deck by a special sunset. Every single thing comprising this day made for a perfect Saturday in the Galápagos Islands.
