Genovesa Island

For nature lovers, what can be more inspirational than an isolated island in its most pristine state?
For bird lovers, what can be more exciting than being surrounded by hundreds of them?
For those who seek a peaceful place to forget past unpleasant events, what can be more moving than to watch exotic animals carrying on with their lives in peaceful harmony?
For those who are in perennial search of the magnificence of the simple things in life, what can be more rewarding than to be able to take a dip in the water in the company of playful sea lions and oblivious fish species?

All these questions, and many more, came to mind after listening to what one of our visitors told me yesterday. Her statement was really touching. She told me, “Carlos, Galapagos is amazing, I am overwhelmed. There is so much to learn, to see, to absorb, to enjoy; it is magical. I can not believe how fortunate I am to be here.” Today, while exploring Genovesa Island, I could not get her comments out of my head. After quite a few years interpreting in Galapagos, I have heard the most wonderful comments of visitors raving about the islands. But what is so extraordinary? What is so special on these islands that makes them different from the rest? Genovesa Island, a true gem in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, is a great example of what I always say: the Galapagos Islands are one of the ultimate paradises on Earth. It is a magical place that represents how the rest of world is supposed to be, how the world should be…it may be one of the reasons why they are so special.
