Genovesa Island
This island is an inspiration for us all. It is true that whenever you go around this archipelago you’ll find beautiful things, but when you come to Genovesa, the beauty of it makes you speechless. There is no place like this in the world, I am sure. With its population of birds that reaches over a million individuals, Genovesa could well be called the “Hitchcock Island.”
Frigatebirds are one of the most interesting species to look at this morning. The fully inflated red pouch is showing up as its best! Most of the males are displaying all they have as they compete for the females. Gorgeous red colors, reminiscent of red light bulbs from a Christmas tree, can be observed even from far in the distance. Lots of females keep circling the skies looking for the best option as mate. Of course the danger for us humans down below increases with the percentage of birds flying above us, if you know what I mean!
We are having a good time observing birds, listening to their calls and identifying different species. Our senses sharpen as we pay more attention to details and by the end, just as we think there is nothing more to see, we turn around and a whole new adventure await us…
