Bartolome and Santiago Islands

It is hard to say goodbye to a week that gave us so many memorable moments. We started with cetaceans, humpbacks and killer whales. In the middle of the week we spotted a barn owl, rare sighting in Galápagos, and the last day we have been swimming and snorkeling with one of the smallest penguins in the world. Walking along the tidal pool area of Santiago Island, we took the time to think about the sightings of the week; not only about what we saw, but also about the new feelings we have experienced by being exposed to wildlife completely unafraid of human beings. We have been close to sea lions, almost to the point of feeling their cold noses, we have witnessed the courtship of blue-footed boobies and albatrosses, and we have seen a yellow-crowned night heron hunting crabs along Santiago coastline. We have been part of a world of innocent creatures: their world! Now it’s time to go back home, but everyone (I am sure) will keep Galápagos within their hearts forever.
