Tower Island

Today we arrived at Genovesa Island in a bay made up of a gorgeous submerged caldera. We had an exciting wet landing and a lovely stroll where we saw our first red-footed boobies. We were thrilled to see both brown and white bodied red-footed boobies. There are only 5% white red-footed boobies, as it is a recessive trait. We also saw the beautiful swallow-tailed gull with its gradual grey shading and bright orange eye ring. After the walk, we had the opportunity to swim or snorkel in warmer water off a serene beach.

This afternoon was a real thrill for the younger guests as they had the opportunity to drive the Zodiacs. There were many screams and laughter from the anxious captains and much water splashing over the sides drenching the unfortunate passengers. Then we all disembarked for a walk along the lava cliffs to see the Nazca boobies, red-footed boobies, and frigate birds nesting. We were excited to also see the fur sea lions for the first time. We even had to step over one to get back in the Zodiacs! All in all it was a wonderful day.
