Genovesa Island

This morning we had a chance to experience one of the best islands in the Galápagos for a countless number of reasons. We started our disembarkation by 8:30 in the morning today at Darwin Bay arriving to a coralline beach where we found many sea birds awaiting for us on the bushes. Here we had the chance to walk very close to them and take some amazing pictures as well. This was so interesting not only because of the diversity but also because they did not show any fear towards humans at all.

The trail was full of a great variety of seabirds, and one of the most photogenic species was the red-footed booby. We also saw swallow tail gulls, great frigate birds and nazca boobies. Right after such interesting encounters, we headed out for snorkeling and kayaking.

As soon as we got back to the ship, a delicious lunch was served. During the afternoon, we took a Zodiac ride along the inside of Genovesa’s Caldera and got to see the babies and adult Galápagos fur sea lions. Later on, the walk continued over some lava fields which are one of the main nesting grounds for the wedge rump storm petrels. However, the highlight for the most of us was sitting down by the cliff and take the chance to contemplate such a spectacular landscape surrounded by incredible wild life.

As a great finale, we headed to the sky deck of the ship. With drinks in hand, we were pleased to observe an extraordinary sunset in the distance…
