Santa Cruz Island

What a wonderful day! Early in the morning, we disembarked on the Island of Santa Cruz visiting the head quarters for conservation in the islands, the Charles Darwin research station and the Galápagos national park administration offices, where we learned about the rearing of baby tortoises and iguanas.

After our close encounter with giant tortoises and the opportunity to visit the world famous lonesome George (the last survival tortoise of Pinta Island), we continued to enjoy a taste of the Galapagenian hospitality, souvenir shops, tropical drink’s bars, colorful houses under blue sky, and a gentile breeze of the near by bay.

After our exciting and eventful morning, we set sails heading for our next visitor site, Cerro Dragon. This place takes its name after the land iguana’s population inhabiting the area. We did have the opportunity to just watch them in their natural habitat. It was a spectacular day not only for iguanas but also to identify some species of birds such as finches, mocking birds and even some flamingos!

It was a very interesting morning and afternoon, an estrange mix of people and wildlife, but in the end, we had the usual results…a crowd happy to have seen it and done it all!
