A crescent waning moon and Venus seemed strung together in their falling trajectory through the starry night. These two heavenly bodies first appeared in the late afternoon sky as the sun smeared orange over the Sierra de la Giganta of Baja California. We had just enjoyed a long rollicking encounter with a large herd of over 500 bottlenose dolphins, many of which were bowriding our ship and leaping in our wake. Now hanging low and brightly illuminated, Venus and the sliver of moon created a rippling glitter streak on the water as we headed for the lights of Santa Rosalia. Our attention was drawn once more however to dolphins, who were now magically glowing in the dark water as they rode in front of our bow. The dolphins stirred up bioluminescent organisms as they moved through the water creating a surreal impression. The beautiful glowing dolphins, the moon and Venus, the stars and the Milky Way, and the lights of the quaint Baja town we would visit tomorrow illuminated our night and our hearts.
