A Matter of Perspective

This week aboard the Sea Bird we have a number of younger guests on board. Their youth has added an additional dimension of energy as well as a different perspective in our observations. Magdelana Island, is it a gleaming land of shifting dunes, coastal mangroves and zig-zagging animal tracks? Or is it an oversized sandbox, ready for our exuberant guests to explore and jump off the edges of its inviting dune faces? When you’re on an expedition exploring new territory, it may only be a matter of perspective. Below are some shared perspectives from our young-in-age guests, all of us may share in some of these perspectives, as we are always young at heart.

WHALE
By Andrea Lauer

Why do you keep secrets, when they are so big and great?
How do we know so much, but know so little?
Are you trying to tell me something?
Lingering, waiting to tell us something.
Everything I want to know about the sea you know.

Rocking and turning,
Waves a laping,
Mixing sea.
Greens and blues spraying,
Swaying, sleeping
Ever turning sea.

Splashing

There a breaching whale,
The ship plowing through waves admit powerful gales.
The soothing sea spray in your face,
Can you imagine a more perfect place?
What a wonderful life,
Devoid of common strife.
The endless sea seen here, but when left,
it is as no one was there.

BEACH

Breach of beauty, fluke so grand.
Eating fine, this food devine.
Art of glory, the painted sky.
Crave the place, with all its grace.
Here lie my jewels, for evermore.

T’was here I traveled
For a blow, bark, and my stay
Then home, I smiled.
