Our day started early. Shortly after three am to be precise, when the officer of the watch received a mayday call from a sailboat taking on water. Some of us rose in curiosity to watch our officers and crew demonstrate their skills as they boarded the vessel in distress, stabilized the situation and took the boat and occupants in tow. By breakfast time the rescued party was safely deposited at San Juanico Cove with necessary provisions and shore aide. We continued on through seas that had progressed from the rolling waves of night to a mirror-like surface. Dolphins came and went, teasing us with their playful games. Warm sunshine and the introspective nature of the last day of an amazing voyage lead to a relaxing afternoon ashore on Isla del Carmen, strolling, swimming or kayaking. The youth of our shipboard family summarized their week as follows:
My favorite part of this trip was petting the baby whale. I will never be able to forget that.

The gray whales were definitely the best. My favorite part was when I got to kiss a whale. Our trips to the islands were also very fun. We got to have a beach barbecue that lasted for hours. I had the best time that I could have wished for. I liked snorkeling and observing the carefully woven intricate designs on the fish.

The gray whales at San Ignacio provided a magnificent spectacle for us all and as well a chance to touch the "friendly whales". The crew also improved the trip tenfold with their generosity and geniality.
