Magdalena Bay
Sunrise. Beautiful orange ball burning through the distant fog and we are on the water once again. Pelicans, cormorants, oystercatchers and gulls are silhouetted in the early morning light. It is peaceful and calm in the bay, but we are excited and hopeful. We take in the view. Whale blows hang in the still morning air, heart-shaped and backlit by the sun. A breaching whale adds its signature to the scene. This would be a perfectly beautiful day without any additions.
Much to our delight, there are additions. Once again we have the magical opportunity to interact with others, others who are not us, not human. We can only guess at why the gray whales do what they do and choose to make contact with us. Some of us scream, others laugh, others watch in wonder and awe. Each of us will incorporate this into our life in our own manner. All of us have been touched (in more ways than one).
The rest of the day gives us time to relax and reflect as we head back south through Hull Canal. The blue of the sky and blue of the bay would merge if it were not for the stark white dunes keeping them separate. We end our afternoon with a peaceful Zodiac cruise in the mangrove lagoons. Yet once again, others approach our boat unexpectedly. This time it is not whales, but instead Bill, Michael and Michelle from the Sea Lion bringing us drinks and snacks!
