What defines a Lindblad expedition? For many it is the casual atmosphere and the intimacy of small ship travel. For others it is simply the unique and exciting itineraries offered, the promise of new places, remote or far flung. Yet often the most and desirable and valuable aspects to any journey are the most difficult to find. The time to be alone, to reflect, to find silence and to listen to it, represents a facet of travel not easily found. We found a slice of time for just such an experience today. The Sea Lion anchored in a remote inlet, and as a group we explored a landing new to us all. On the stillest of mornings, with no sound but the occasional birdcall or splash from a salmon, our kayaks cut paths in the bay. We followed the shoreline with kelp covered rocks festooned with sea stars. We paddled to the far shore in twos or threes. We drifted apart as each fell to his own pace. We paused in our private journeys and drank of the solitude, both a gift and a treasure.
