When morning came the guests aboard the Sea Lion looked out on a snow-covered landscape. The Palouse River canyon no longer basked in Indian summer weather. The vista was dramatic from Palouse Falls State Park, but there was a definite chill in the air. At every season of the year this is a beautiful place. In the spring with balsamroot, lupines, and cluster-lilies covering the hillsides; in summer with blonde grasses and sunflowers; in autumn with rabbitbrush blooming a splash of yellow; but even now as the sky turns gray and the land turns white, this is a special place.
The Lewis and Clark expedition paused only long enough to have lunch where the Palouse River enters the Snake. In the comfort of the Sea Lion, we have been able to stay longer and enjoy our visit.
