Corcovado National Park
Today we started the day with some stretching on the sun deck while enjoying the sun rising behind of the beautiful mountains of Corcovado National Park. At 8am everybody disembarked to take different hikes; some went to the waterfall, others decided to explore the long ridge trail, and a few wanted to do the birding trail parallel to the coast.
Toucans, crocodiles, great curassows, trogons, howler monkeys and American oyster catchers were some of the animals we found while enjoying our exploration. When we came back to the Sea Voyager, a mother humpback whale was with her young calf around the boat offering us the chance to witness her breaching and playing.
Then it was time to direct the Sea Voyager to our next destination. The repositioning was smooth and while sailing we had the chance to see another humpback whale with its young again at a distance.
When we arrived at Caletas Bay we immediately disembarked to enjoy a fantastic barbeque on the beach, after which some decided to horseback ride, hike again along the trails and/or relax at the beach. For those of us that took the horseback ride the experience offered another plus because, as the trail took turns and coils along the beach, we had the chance to see some of the usual activities of the local people.
When we came back the Sea Voyager repositioned to Drake Bay, another beautiful small bay from which we enjoyed the sun setting between Corcovado National Park and the historical monument of Cano Island. Cano Island, by the way, is the oldest piece of land in what today is the south of Costa Rica, geologically speaking.
