Drake Bay

Costa Rica is known around the world for its wildlife and biodiversity. Certainly we have a lot of both of these in the tiny town of Drake Bay in the south Pacific coast of the country. But perhaps Costa Rica’s most precious resources are the “ticos” (the Costa Ricans) themselves. With a mandatory, public basic education system, even in a little town like this, with only 300 inhabitants, there is a primary school.

As we walked through town this morning, we saw several birds, iguanas, monkeys and even a boa constrictor. But none of this nature would be here without the care of the Costa Ricans. Around the school we saw a lot of signs that had been made by the kids; signs that had messages of conservation and respect for nature. We were lucky enough to catch the kids on their morning break. They were playing on the school grounds just behind the beach. It must be great to take your morning break in front of a tropical beach in a place you share with monkeys, iguanas and toucans!
