Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica
One of the habits we’ve gotten used to during this trip is that getting up early. At first, we were in shock but by the end of our journey we’ve come to realize that it’s worth it. This morning we had early riser’s coffee at the bar and proceeded to take the Zodiacs into Manuel Antonio National Park, which is the smallest of all the National Parks in Costa Rica. We were allowed to enter before opening time and had the whole beach and forest for ourselves. The beach had white sand and the forest borders the whole beach. Some of us went on a hike up to Punta Catedral. This is the highest point in the park and from here one can see the ocean and the small islands that are home to thousands of sea birds. Later, we hiked “Sloth Valley” trail where we had the chance to see this most unusual animal. The sloth we found was a three toed sloth a most unusual animal which belongs to the Edentata order which is made up by only three types of mammals: the anteaters, the armadillos and the sloths. Late afternoon found us either swimming or going into the town of Manuel Antonio for some shopping and wandering around the village. The day ended with our delicious farewell dinner on board.
