Playa Caletas, Peninsula de Osa, Costa Rica

The beauty of nature in the tropics is outstanding. Scarlet macaws are perhaps one of the most beautiful displays of color that anyone can find in the rainforest. Known as one of the symbols of the tropics, macaws are hard to miss in Corcovado National Park on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. While exploring the rainforest of this wonderful park and its surrounding areas, macaws flew over our heads while making their loud calls. It is almost as if they were asking to be seen.

The evergreen rainforest can be a tricky place when trying to find wild life. Today only some of our guests got to see the spider monkeys, while others saw the white-nosed coatis. The same was true with the birds: not all of us saw all the species that we listed today. The macaws were perhaps the exception. Most of our guests saw them, and some of us saw them quite close. They were perched on a beach almond tree feeding on the fruits just above where we were swimming.
