Costa Rica received us with great weather as we docked in Golfito and our guests had the choice of going kayaking or taking Zodiac rides along the forested slopes that surround the deep blue waters of the gulf. The wildlife viewing was pretty rewarding as we encountered mantled howlers and white-faced Capuchin monkeys, as well as toucans and waterfowl.

After a delicious lunch, we headed to Casa Orquídea – one of the most impressive botanical gardens found in the country – where scarlet macaws, yellow-throated toucans and many other colorful birds supplemented the exuberant vegetation of the area.

Later, pantropical spotted dolphins and rough-toothed dolphins – quite uncommon for these waters – accompanied our vessel to Playa Blanca where we are going to spend the night.
