National Geographic Explorer sailed into Siglufjörður in the early hours. The beautiful fishing town is full of interesting history. Guests enjoyed a lovely show by the local herring girls, who demonstrated the history of the fishing industry in song and dance. It was incredible. We took a tour of the herring museum, which explained the town’s history and formation, as well as the culture around the Icelandic fishing industry. Guests enjoyed free time to explore the beautiful little town.

Our afternoon was spent at sea listening to incredible talks by our onboard expedition team. We heard from Alex about the special world of puffins. Later in the afternoon, we were treated to a visit by a pod of feeding humpback whales. The end of the day was spent navigating around stunning Grimey Island while celebrating with onboard legend and Cultural Navigator Tua Pittman in the lounge.
