This morning National Geographic Sea Lion reached Playa Junquillal off Santa Rosa National Park, situated on the northwestern coast of Costa Rica. The winds were particularly strong this morning, and our ship and officers did a fantastic job navigating our ship to a safe, tranquil anchorage where we could safely disembark to walk, kayak or snorkel off the shore.

This afternoon we were truly surprised with rain. In this part of Costa Rica, at this time of the year, it should not be raining! It is not called the tropical dry forest for nothing, but climate has been a little crazy lately, and rain it did, making for a much cooler afternoon and ideal lighting for photography. We even got treated to a double rainbow, a perfect ending at Playa Junquillal.
