Early in the morning, we spotted our first brown bear of the journey, a coastal brown bear. National Geographic Sea Lion approached slowly, and we spent at least a half hour observing the bear as it found food along the intertidal zone.

Later in the day, after spotting several humpback whales and a couple of more distant bears, we explored the Lake Eva trail. We learned about temperate forest ecology and enjoyed today’s introduction to this wonderful place, Southeast Alaska.
