We have spent the entire day in calm waters in the protected lee of the major island of Santa Cruz, smack dab in the middle of the archipelago. We explored two locations on this northern shoreline by foot, Zodiac, and kayak. What a difference from yesterday, when the landscape was green and verdant, to today. Everything is brown and dry except for the mangroves, which create a luscious, deep green fringe over black lava! The warm temperatures and higher-than-normal humidity were tremendously unusual. It felt more like April than September, which is usually our cool season here on the equator.
