Today we arrived at Santa Cruz Island, the second largest island in the archipelago. During the morning, we walked through the Fausto Llerena Breeding Center. Here, we learned all about the reproductive program for the giant tortoises carried out by the Galapagos National Park.

Later, we walked into town and had a great time exploring. By midday, we had lunch at Bahia Mar restaurant and from there we went to the highlands to explore a local farm. We had the wonderful opportunity to observe how alcohol and sweets are made using natural sugarcane juice. We also had a great walk around the farm, where giant tortoises live and roam freely. We encountered several individuals and even two couples mating.

At the end of the afternoon, we headed back to National Geographic Gemini and had a great evening in the company of some local musicians.
