On a flat calm sea, we sailed north all morning from Santa Rosalia to Salsipuedes Island enjoying the sunny, warm conditions looking for wildlife from the bow. Many bird species accompanied us, including yellow-footed gulls, Heermann’s gulls, brown boobies, and brown pelicans.

After lunch we landed on a narrow isthmus on Salsipuedes Island for hikes and kayaking. The island appears barren at first glance but in fact is home to many botanic species well adapted to the marine and desert environment of the Northern Gulf of California.

To complete the day, we enjoyed photographing our first classic Baja sunset of warm colored brush strokes streaked across the sky.
