To start the day, we woke up with a view from inside of an eroded tuff cone that once was visited by the famous naturalist Charles Darwin. As we were anchored in the same cove as HMS Beagle once was, we started with an early morning hike. We were surrounded by dry vegetation and a great population of young finches and mockingbirds; we also had the opportunity to explore the coastline.
For the afternoon we visited another young island, Fernandina. We enjoyed a second round of snorkeling with beautiful rocky reef fish from the East Pacific. And by the end of the day we walked along the slopes of an active volcano, home to the unique and abundant marine iguana.
