Today’s expedition was on the historic island of Tinos, where we boarded the coaches from the port and started a scenic drive through the rugged hinterland of the island. We admired the stone terraces of local farmers, who still support the local economy with their agriculture. We arrived in the town of Pyrgos for a visit to the Museum of Marble to learn about the thousands of years old traditional extraction of this beautiful stone; there are over a hundred varieties. Then we walked to town and the central square for some independent exploration. A few guests took a little hike looking for geocache hidden close to the old ruins of a windmill, befriending a couple of goats on their way. On our drive back to Tinos, we passed an important pilgrimage site for Greeks, Virgin Mary Evangelisteria church, and we returned to Sea Cloud with the Meltemi winds.
