What a day we had! Wrangell gave us not only wildlife but muskegs, petroglyphs, and the rarest thing of all: our first Alaskan sunshine.

The day started with an early riser breakfast as we prepared for a full day of expedition activities. We split into two groups. One set of adventurers made its way to Chief Shakes House and Petroglyph Beach while the other group took a jetboat ride up the Stikine River.

We headed back to the boat for a lovely brunch to fuel us for afternoon hikes near town. One group ascended Mt. Dewy and got their heart pumping on the incline. The other group set off for muskeg madness in Volunteer Park. From Jurassic Park-sized skunk cabbages to carnivorous sundews, we saw how even the harshest environments are filled with thriving ecosystems.

Everyone headed back to the ship for an all-you-can-eat crab buffet and the highlight of the week so far: a presentation about bird migration from Naturalist Brady Clarke, author of this DER.
