Warming waters are allowing invasive species to take hold in the Southern Ocean, threatening penguins, seals and other marine life. With support from the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic (LEX-NG) Fund, Visiting Scientist and National Geographic Explorer Alessandro Ponzo works to prevent further spread by studying eDNA from plankton and other samples to track their development. In this video, he shares discoveries made aboard the National Geographic Resolution and how the LEX-NG Fund supports protection of this fragile ecosystem.
