Floreana Island
This is our third expedition day in the Galápagos Islands, and so far our guests have been able to experience wonderful moments that they will never forget!
In the morning and in the afternoon we tried to include as many activities as we could in order to let our guests know deeply the marine and land ecosystems of Floreana Island.
With our kayaks everyone got the chance to explore the volcanic coastal part of Cormorant Point, finding lot’s of sea birds involved in their normal activities of the day, interacting with sea lions. During our deep water snorkeling outing we could explore the marine ecosystem of Champion Islet. We found lots of fish feeding as there was an abundance of little fish larvae in the water; so it was really spectacular to get to see them so close to us eating.
Floreana is a historical place, for many centuries pirates and whalers have stopped at this island just to get fresh water from the highland lagoons and also giant tortoises as a source of food. For many years there has been a good mailing system in the area; whalers used to leave their letters for their loved ones in a wine barrel, hoping that other boats passing by would deliver them for him. Continuing with the old tradition our guests participated with the post card exchange, while they also learned about the human history of the Island.
We all got the chance to walk later at a site called Punta Cormorant, where we came across flamingos feeding in a big brackish water lagoon and also green sea turtles floating along a big white sandy beach.
