Manuel Antonio National Park

Our first day and we were already enjoying the natural wonders of this beautiful National Park. Manuel Antonio is one the smallest parks; however, it is one of the most visited of the National Park System of Costa Rica.

The Sea Voyager was anchored of Playa Espadilla Sur. Our naturalists were eagerly waiting for our arrival to commence the two different hikes. Punta Cathedral at one point was an island, but due to marine currents and sedimentation it was linked to the mainland. The trail was muddy and somewhat difficult but it had its rewards. Sloth Valley provided us with the opportunity to learn more about flora and fauna in a leisurely stroll.

Before the morning had ended we were able to check several birds, reptiles, and mammals off our list. We saw osprey, grey-necked wood rails, yellow crowned night heron, brown basilisk, spiny tailed iguana, two-toed and three toed sloths, howler monkeys, white-faced capuchin monkeys and Central American agoutis were some of the fascinating wildlife we encountered.

A refreshing swim in the warm waters of the tranquil Pacific Ocean was in order before we boarded the Sea Voyager for lunch. What a way to start our adventure! PURA VIDA!
