Isla Santa Catalina, BCS, Mexico
Waking up in the Sea of Cortez is always an amazing experience. The sunrise this morning cast a beautiful ray on Sierra de la Giganta, the mountain range on the peninsula, as we were making our way to the anchorage.
We began our expedition this morning at Elephant Rock on the southern end of Isla Santa Catalina. This island is considered the crown jewel of the gulf islands as it is a great place to explore. There are several indigenous species of reptiles including the rattleless rattlesnake and a plethora of plant life.
Those who decided to go on the aerobic hike to the top enjoyed an amazing view of the Sea of Cortez on both sides of the island. After a great time hiking we enjoyed the undersea life while snorkeling, which was a highlight of the day. When we were done with our morning of activities the galley was ready for our ravenous appetites with a delicious lunch.
