Genovesa Island

Genovesa is a birdwatcher’s paradise. It is an idyllic place where bird species can be observed just few feet away. This remote island provides incredible opportunities not only to see the birds, but also to observe their fascinating behavior. The latter statement represents one of the wildest dreams a birdwatcher can have. A place where you can not only add a bird species to your life list but you can admire them carrying on with their lives in front of your eyes, without showing concern. Birds mating, nesting, grooming, feeding their chicks, can be admired on every single spot on the island. It is estimated that approximately one million birds live on Genovesa. The island is very small, it is only 5.4 square miles; therefore the density of birds found there is not less than impressive. The abundance and beauty here are so touching that they fill the hearts of our visitors with very strong feelings. Let me share with you one of these experiences that happened just today in the morning.

After the walk, I heard a beautiful expression from one of our guests. Her reflection inspired me to try to explain to you, through these short paragraphs, just how heartrending it is to observe birds so close when you love them. She told me “Carlos, I was not a bird lover before coming to the Galapagos, after these days and especially after this visit, I feel that from now on, every time I will see a bird I will see it in a different way”. I told her, “Well, there you are, a new bird lover,” she replied with a smile, and I added, “You have been touched by the magic of the Galapagos!”
