Genovesa Island
This is a very small and isolated island located at the northernmost side of the archipelago. This place is definitely a sea bird’s paradise, and we could clearly see that since the minute we anchored at the bay. As usual, some of our guests (especially the early raisers) were already strolling along the outer decks observing the complicated maneuvering performed by the Captain and his officer to anchor inside of the bay. At the sight of the ship, dozens and dozens of the famous red footed boobies were making their way to encounter our ship. They have decided that the lights’ line above the ship would be their morning resting stop, and very unfortunately for some of the strollers, they made their presence noticed!
We spent the entire day visiting a couple of visitors’ sites opened long ago in the island. Both of them were offering superb opportunities to observe up and close not only the red footed boobies, but a large group of species that only occur in this region of the Galápagos. The swimming and snorkeling was very popular as well, and the water temperatures had been rising lately to a very nice and comfortable level.
This has been a day of discovery, and it is hard to believe that after five days traveling around the archipelago, we are still discovering new things, but after all, we are in the Galápagos and discovering is an everyday experience…
