Corcovado National Park, Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica

Today we spent the day at Corcovado National Park one of the most pristine areas in all of Central America. After a delicious beach barbeque lunch we were walking through the rain forest when we encountered a troop of around 25 white-faced capuchin monkeys. The photography frenzy that was triggered with their arrival slowed down as we realized that they were not in a rush to leave. Indeed, we were lucky enough to have them clambering around us for an hour.

These beautiful animals in this pristine environment behave naïve enough to climb less than four feet away from us. During their stay they gave us a life show of their natural habits, as the guides were saying that they are the only monkeys in Costa Rica that walk on the ground to feed, some of them actually took a walk on the ground. As the guides described their feeding habits, the monkeys heard word of what they were supposed to do, and started feeding on insects and fruits. After a spectacular show of monkey behavior, that included two mothers carrying newborn babies on their backs, the only thing missing was autographing of the pictures we took of them. Something the monkeys haven’t figured out how to do yet, perhaps next time?
