This morning, we arrived at Naxos, the largest island in Greece’s Cyclades. Seven of us divers headed off to the town of Agios Prokopios where we met our guides for an underwater adventure in the shallow waters around White Island. A stunning boulder landscape greeted us with dazzling Mediterranean damselfish shoaling all around. It was fun to explore the cracks and crevices in search of cardinalfish and colorful rainbow wrasses.

The famous Mediterranean Posidonia sea grasses covering the sandy sea floor gave our divers an incredible opportunity to search for ocean critters amongst its one-and-a-half meter-long grassy blades. Posidonia meadows are arguably one of the most important marine habitats found in the coastal shallow waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

This afternoon, National Geographic Orion relocated to the nearby island of Paros, which is renowned for its history, and particularly its Parian marble. And on our Paros Island tour, we got to visit an ancient marble quarry, the town of Naousa for some shopping, and to top it off, a visit to a local winery for a little bit of wine tasting.
