It was early morning when the first inflatable cruise was announced; being on a photo expedition we have to take advantage of the very first light of the morning and there is no better place to start than the Pearl Islands.

As an amazing spot for shore and sea birds, we knew the opportunities were going to be great to get some amazing shots. Magnificent frigatebirds, American oystercatchers, brown pelicans, bare-throated tiger herons and many more birds were just waiting to pose for our lenses.

The morning was getting a bit warm and it was time to refresh in the waters of the Pacific Ocean, and why not? Try some snorkeling to get an advance of what we were going to see tomorrow at Granito de Oro island or just swimming in the refreshing waters of the gulf.

The morning was over and it was time to go back aboard National Geographic Sea Lion; it was time to leave paradise, as I like to call these islands.

For the afternoon Mother Nature was just waiting to give us one more of those amazing surprises. On our way out of the Gulf of Panama we saw four different species of cetaceans navigating with us for several minutes. A humpback whale and a group of false killer whales, bottle-nosed dolphins and pantropical spotted dolphins that came to bow-ride our ship made the afternoon a memorable one for all of us.
