Itinerary

Day 1 - Athens, Greece

Arrive in Athens and transfer to the NJV Athens Plaza Hotel hospitality room. Set out on a guided walking tour through the city’s vibrant streets, venturing beyond the well-known landmarks to experience Athens through its food and the rhythms of daily life.

Stroll past antique shops and local storefronts, stopping at carefully selected specialty shops to sample some of Greece’s finest products, including olive oil, regional cheeses and honey. Continue through lively neighborhoods where traditional pastry shops offer classic sweets, and pause to enjoy a cup of aromatic Greek coffee.

Make your way to the renowned Varvakios Agora, Athens’ historic central market, where fishmongers, butchers and produce vendors create a vivid portrait of the city’s culinary culture. Wander through its bustling aisles—the true “belly of Athens”—taking in the colors, sounds and energy of this essential gathering place.

Along the route, step into a traditional bakery to sample freshly prepared specialties, and enjoy a demonstration of phyllo-making paired with bougatsa, a beloved custard-filled pastry from northern Greece. Later, sit down to a tasting of cured meats and cheeses accompanied by wine and a local spirit.

Conclude your culinary journey at a local eatery with a serving of authentic Greek souvlaki, a simple yet iconic dish that reflects the essence of the country’s cuisine.

Following the tour, enjoy a brief city overview by coach as you transfer to the ship.* (L)
