Extend your stay in Panama City and have a private tour at the Panama Canal Museum at the Miraflores Locks, as well as a former U.S. Army base, Frank Gehry’s BioMuseo, and two UNESCO World Heritage Sites—the historic Casco Viejo Old Town and the natural beauty and wildlife of the San Lorenzo Protected Area.

Itinerary

Day 1 - San Lorenzo Protected Area / Panama City

Disembark National Geographic Quest and visit the Agua Clara Locks Visitor Center for a firsthand look at the newest operational locks on the Panama Canal. At 70 feet wider than the original locks, these accommodate the largest vessels transiting between oceans.

Continue to Fort San Lorenzo, perched on a cliff where the Chagres River meets the Caribbean. This iconic UNESCO World Heritage site dates to the early 1600s and once guarded the Spanish trading route across the isthmus before being converted to a prison.

Explore the verdant San Lorenzo Protected Area on foot, discovering one of Panama's less-visited natural gems. Listen for mantled howler monkeys and watch for toucans, trogons, poison dart frogs and blue morpho butterflies.

Cross the isthmus to Panama's capital for lunch, then visit Frank Gehry's BioMuseo—his only design in Central America. Visit nearby Fort Amador before checking into the hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 - Panama City / Miraflores

After breakfast, continue through the old Canal Zone, passing landmarks such as the Panama Canal Administration Building in the foothills of Ancon Hill. At Miraflores Locks, enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour followed by a private VIP tour of the Panama Canal Museum. Lunch at a local restaurant before returning to the hotel for the afternoon.

In the evening, visit Casco Viejo, Panama City's UNESCO-listed Old Town. Walk the historic peninsula with its cathedral spires, narrow streets and colorful colonial architecture before dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3 - Panama City/Home

Transfer to Tocumen International Airport for flights home.
