Global Perspectives Guest Speaker

Dyan deNapoli is a penguin expert, TED speaker, and author of THE GREAT PENGUIN RESCUE. The recipient of several literary awards, her book chronicles the dramatic rescue of 40,000 penguins from the Treasure oil spill in South Africa. A Senior Penguin Aquarist at Boston’s New England Aquarium at the time of the disaster, Dyan served as a rehabilitation manager during the rescue effort, which still stands as the largest and most successful animal rescue ever undertaken.

Dyan has given four TEDx talks, and wrote and narrated a video lesson about penguin conservation for TED-ed, the educational branch of TED. Her TEDxBoston talk about the Treasure oil spill rescue is featured on the main TED website. DeNapoli is a frequent guest on radio, TV, and podcasts in the US and abroad, including several appearances on the BBC and CNN. A 20-year veteran of public speaking, Dyan lectures internationally about penguin conservation; pursuing your dreams; and how to give a TED talk. She has been the guest speaker and penguin expert on nature cruises to the Galapagos Islands and Antarctica. In 2016, she traveled to Antarctica with 75 other female scientists as a member of the inaugural voyage of Homeward Bound, a global leadership initiative for women in science.
