Fabian Bucheli studied at the German School in Quito, graduated from the University of California with a bachelor of science in administration, and earned a master’s degree in international management from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona. He has studied in Germany, France, Belgium, and Austria and is fluent in German, French, English, and Spanish. He has always been in love with nature and conservation. Explaining abstract concepts became second nature as a teaching assistant in biodiversity and evolution (University of Nevada, Las Vegas) while working towards a PhD in environmental risk management.
He became a naturalist guide and diver for the Galápagos National Park and Marine Reserve in 1993. He has accumulated over 2000 dives in the archipelago and has helped author Paul Humann with his guide to the Fishes of Galápagos. Fabian is also a qualified Amazon Rain Forest and Ecuador National Guide. He has combined his passion for nature with the management of agricultural land using the principles of permaculture.
When not guiding he manages a reforestation project of Andean fruits and trees at an Andean dry forest north of Quito (Jerusalem Protected Forest), enjoys horseback riding, two wheels, and family life.
