For over a decade Paul North has been exploring the marine ecosystems of our planet. Whereas most think of diving as a warm water activity, he has chosen the road less traveled–specializing in polar diving. This has provided many rare opportunities to dive and explore from the Arctic to Antarctica and many wondrous places in between.
He began his scientific studies by sailing the Pacific on the tall ships of the Sea Education Association, where he developed a particular affinity for plankton. He spends a great deal of time convincing folk that invertebrates carry equal importance to the charismatic mega-fauna that most come to see.
He is the founder of Meet the Ocean–an educational nonprofit–and he functions as its Director and the host of its podcast. Inviting participation from both young and old, Meet the Ocean blends science and entertainment to achieve the greatest perspective possible on the importance of the blue waters of our planet. Saltwater has been Paul’s greatest teacher, and he enjoys nothing more than passing along its lessons.
